Presidential elections were held in China on 1 October 2016 along with the 11th Guohui election. Chunri Movement candidate Jiang Wen with his running mate Wang Zhian won over Zhao Wei of the Reform Future and Zhou Xuanyi of the Chinese Liberal Party (CLP).
Jiang Wen secured party nomination virtually without contest, having led Chunri since its first conception. Despite prior success under the Zhang Administration, the situation of the ruling Blue Coalition dominated by RF was less than ideal for its candidate Zhao Wei. Although personal diplomacy saw the splintering Republican Platform aligning itself with RF and DbRP, perceived illiberal tendencies of the Zhang administration saw major backlash in polls as the Chunri, which hailed itself as a force against the increasingly senile establishment endeared itself with voters across the nation, and it was almost certain that Jiang was going to win even weeks before election if not secure Chunri significant shares in the Guohui. Zhou Xuanyi, a veteran politician formerly associated with the RF announced his presidential campaign after his progressive stance failed him in the 2015 Huaihai preliminary elections under the banner of the CLP. Despite voting policies in China, voter turnout was one of the lowest since 1976, with only 68% of registered voters casting their ballots.
